CCTCC: ST Season Preview
2010-04-23
With a month to go before the kickoff of the 2010 Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship at Mosport International raceway on the Victoria Day long weekend,
In the Super Touring class for 2010 you would be foolish if you didn’t look at the Lomardi Honda Racing team to repeat in 2010. But they did not rest on their laurels in the off season, and signed two very quick drivers in Ontarian Alex Healy and Quebec native Benjamin Distaulo, to complement defending 2009 Canadian Touring Car Championship ST Champion Nick Wittmer. They will prove tough to beat in 2010.
After all of the analysis of the 2009 season, the only team that I can see competing with Lomardi are the guys from GT Racing. GT Racing comes into the 2010 campaign after a solid 2009 season in which former driver Greg Pootmans finished 2nd in the ST standings and teammate Etienne Borgeat finished 3rd overall respectively. For the upcoming season GT Racing will have a three car effort lead by drivers Etienne Borgeat, Charles-André Bilodeau and Jacques Gravel.
The great unknown for GT Racing in 2010 will be the switch of cars from BMW’s to the Pontiac Solstice.
Sleeper pick for the ST Crown would have to go Andrew Wojteczko and the Auto Analyser team and their Lexus IS300. Keys for a strong run at the ST title will be reliability. AAR was plagued by reliability issues in the second half of the 2009 campaign, and will be keen for a better points run in 2010. Development of the Lexus could also prove challenging as the Lexus will probably be close to the end of its life expectancy by seasons end. Don’t be surprised if there’s rumbling of a new car in the AAR garage down the road.
You just can’t count them out at any round for outright wins. Andrew has proven to be very quick and has big race experience under his belt.

Top 5 Finishers in ST from last season.
